What Is the Integral Movement Method (IMM)? A Pilates Teacher's Perspective in South East London

As a Pilates teacher based in SE20, South East London, I am passionate about helping people move with greater confidence, comfort and ease. One of the ways I continue to develop my knowledge is through specialist training, including the Fundamentals of the Integral Movement Method (IMM), developed by Jeannie Di Bon in association with The Ehlers-Danlos Society.
What Is the Integral Movement Method?
The Integral Movement Method (IMM) is an evidence-informed approach to movement that focuses on improving body awareness, breathing, alignment, stability and movement efficiency. Rather than encouraging people to push through discomfort, IMM follows a "no pain, no strain" philosophy that supports sustainable progress and positive movement experiences.
The method is particularly recognised for helping people with hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) and persistent pain. However, the principles can also benefit anyone looking to improve movement quality, build confidence and develop a stronger connection with their body.
How IMM Complements Pilates
Pilates and IMM share many important principles, including mindful movement, body awareness and efficient movement patterns.
By combining my Pilates training with IMM principles, I can support clients in developing:
Greater body awareness and control
Improved stability and movement confidence
Better breathing patterns
Functional strength for everyday activities
A more positive relationship with movement
This approach is particularly valuable for people who may have felt discouraged by traditional exercise programmes or who are looking for a gentler, more personalised approach to movement.
Who I Work With
I work with adults of all ages across SE20 and the surrounding areas of South East London, both in private Pilates sessions and small group settings.
Clients often come to me because they:
Want to improve strength and mobility
Are returning to exercise after injury or illness
Experience recurring aches and pains
Have hypermobility, EDS or HSD
Want to improve balance, posture and body awareness
Are looking for Pilates in South East London that can be adapted to their individual needs
Whether your goal is to move more freely, feel stronger, improve your Pilates practice or better understand your body, my aim is to create a supportive environment where movement feels achievable, enjoyable and sustainable.
